Altar Servers
Altar service is an honor and a privilege extended to all students ages nine on up. Schedules listing the servers appointed for the four masses each weekend are also posted on the school bulletin boards and in the church sacristy. Servers also serve funerals and weddings on a volunteer basis through the year.
Holy Spirit Altar Server Training
All Altar Servers are asked to attend one of the following Altar Server Training Sessions. These training sessions are for both current altar servers and those who would like to become altar servers (must be in 4th grade or above).
The training sessions will be conducted by TBD of Holy Spirit Parish.
Please be prepared to fill out a form indicating your full address, phone number, 1st and 2nd mass preferences, and email address.
Thank you for your service!
Band (Beginning & Advanced) Grades 4-8

The Band Program at Holy Spirit School is an extracurricular activity designed to provide students an excellent education in instrumental music. The program is open to fourth grade students and above. Instruments can either be purchased or rented from a local music store or the school, if available. Students spend their first year in Beginning Band, where they learn the fundamental principles of ensemble playing, as well as receive beginning instruction on their individual instrument. After completion of Beginning Band, students move into the Advanced Band, where they receive in-depth instruction on their instrument, continue to refine their ensemble playing skills, and explore the challenging world of band music literature. The Advanced Band performs extensively throughout the school year, including a Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, and at school pep rallies. They also compete annually at District Competition and at another trip-based music festival in the spring

BOY SCOUTS - TROOP 361
Boy Scouts at Holy Spirit Regional School is open to all boys ages eleven to eighteen. We have a strong boy led troop with an outstanding group of Woodbadge trained adults to guide them. There is at least one outing per month in addition to regular Monday evening troop meetings. The patrols are also strongly encouraged to hold a minimum of two patrol meetings per month.

Also for the older boys and girls (14-21) we have a Venture Crew. This crew does high adventure programs such as climbing, caving and fishing along with other activities such as auto mechanics. Boys who have attained the rank of First Class in a Boy Scout troop may continue to work on and attain Star, Life and Eagle Ranks. These boys may also be dual registered in a troop or crew if desired. There is also an advancement program in Venture Crew which both boys and girls can attain, the highest award the Venturing silver. Venture Crew meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 at North Alabama Outdoors on Memorial Parkway.

Boys and families interested in joining Boy Scouts are always welcome to come visit us Monday evenings.

Children's Liturgy
One of the most exciting things happening at Holy Spirit Regional School during the academic year is our weekly celebration of the Eucharist as a school community. Liturgy literally means "the work of the people", in our case, "the work of the children". Our priests and faculty strongly encourage the students to bring as much of themselves as possible to each mass.
The responsibility of liturgical planning, preparation and ministry rotate from one class to the next, all the way down to Kindergarten. Because our teachers are wonderfully individual in their styles and creative approaches, the children are always excited about their worship experience. The students truly enjoy the company of their parents and family members at all the masses.

Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts began at Holy Spirit in 1967. There are six to eight troops of girls ranging from Daisy (Kindergarten), Brownie (first – third grade), Junior (Fourth- sixth grade), Cadette (seventh- ninth grade), and Senior (tenth- twelfth grade). The Daisy, Brownie and Junior troops meet after school twice a month in the meeting rooms of our Holy Spirit Parish Activity Center. The Cadette and Senior troops meet once a month and places will vary from the Holy Spirit Parish Activity Center to troop members’ homes. Many months the troops will also have a field trip. A big event that is held yearly is a Joint Girl -Boy Scout Sunday at church. Here the Parish recognizes our scouts who are earning their respective religious emblem that year. For contact information concerning Girl Scouts please refer to the Holy Spirit Parish Bulletin.

Math Team
Math Team is an extracurricular activity offered for students in sixth through eighth grades. Approximately eight math tournaments are attended on Saturdays from November to May.
Math Team Competitions
Teams compete on two levels. All students take a 25 question multiple choice written test. Individual awards are given to top scorers. The second level is ciphering, in which four selected team members compete against other teams for speed and accuracy in problem solving. Team scores consist of the top four written test scores and all earned ciphering points. Team awards are usually awarded to the top three to five teams.
Math Team seeks to offer a new and higher level of academic challenge and experience to all interested students.

Robotics
Robotics has arrived in the Holy Spirit School in a big way! In the 2006-07 school year Holy Spirit entered in the First Lego League competition for the first time in school history and did an outstanding job representing the school. Our team won the Team Competition (beating out 36 other teams!) where the team was required to build a bridge in 10 minutes then answer a series of questions from the panel of judges. They built the bridge while demonstrating "gracious professionalism" and outstanding team work. The team also finished in the top 5 in the technical presentation portion of the competition. This competition required the team to present their research on the competition's theme of the year which was "Nano Technology." The team chose the use of Nano Technology in the medical field and they put together an informative and entertaining skit to illustrate its applications. The team also built a robot using legos and had to program it to perform 9 different tasks. The competition required the robot to complete the tasks in 2 minutes or less. We gave it good try and hope to score more points this year!

Safety Patrol
The Safety Patrol for Holy Spirit Regional School consists of 5th and 6th graders. The 5th graders patrol morning and afternoon at the entrance at Airport Road and the Cafeteria Door. The 6th graders patrol at the front of the school, working with the Kindergarten through the Third grade students and teachers. An application must be completed by each patrol member. The patrols are chosen on reliability and good character. If the patrol's overall average drops below a C, he/she will be removed from the squad until the grades are brought up.
