Q: What is Development?
A: Development is meaningfully involving people in your school’s mission and vision for the future. Through meaningful involvement comes the sense of ownership which leads to lifelong relationships. The development office provides administrative support to those efforts which supplement and enhance the School’s finances. In so doing, a variety of activities are implemented and/or supervised from this area, made possible by invaluable volunteer support. Tuition covers approximately 77% of the school’s Operating Budget.

Q: What does our Development Office do for HSRS?
A: Our Development Office is staffed by Lee Dumbacher who is our Director of Development. Lee works to promote the Holy Spirit Regional School Foundation. The Foundation is the school’s Endowment Trust Fund, which began in 1989. She also works with the school’s Marketing Committee and writes Grant proposals to bring new programs to the school. Alumni and Grandparent records are also housed in the Development Office.

Q: Our family wasn’t here in 1989, what is our “Endowment Trust Fund”?
A: The sole purpose of the Endowment – HSRS Foundation – is to support the school’s programs and operations, through interest generated on funds maintained in trust. The mission of the Foundation is to ensure that every student receives an affordable, quality Catholic education. Every year since 1989, the Foundation has contributed $10,000 to the operating budget of the school. This amount is taken from the interest earned, never the principle, from the fund. This contribution has been used for Tuition Assistance.

Q: Does the BASH, our only annual fundraiser, contribute anything to the Foundation?
A: Yes, because the BASH is a joint venture of the Foundation and the PTO, the profits are shared. The BASH is dedicated to Building an Academic and Spiritual Heritage, and certainly one way to insure the future of quality education at HSRS is to “Build” our Endowment Trust Fund.

Q: What types of donations are given to the Foundation?
A: Because individual donors prefer many options when giving, the Foundation has identified many ways to provide support. Annual cash gifts provide immediate revenues to the fund, yet other popular choices are memorial scholarships, life insurance, Matching corporate gifts, real estate, securities or bequests. Tax laws encourage generosity to non-profit organizations like the HSRS Foundation by allowing contributors significant tax advantages. Donors often take advantage of tax benefits by contributing stocks, properties or memorials at year’s end.

Q: What if I can’t make a large donation to the Foundation now because I’m paying tuition and attending the BASH and buying raffle tickets etc.?
A: Firstly, no gift is too small to help endow our school for the future. In addition, buying raffle and BASH tickets each year does help the Foundation! By contributing to the BASH you become a Friend of the Foundation. If you choose to make a pledge to the Foundation, your donation is completed in five years and you are enrolled in the Praetorian Society.

Q: What is the Praetorian Society?
A: For those who wish to pledge a gift of $5000 or more to the Foundation, the Praetorian Society was established. The Praetorian Guards of ancient Rome protected the Emperor. Our Praetorians are the “Guardians of Excellence in Catholic Education”. At present, the Praetorian has 21 members. These members pledged to become major donors to the school’s Foundation at various levels:

PATRON $5000 over five years
BENEFACTOR $10,000 over five years
PROTECTOR $15,000 over five years
GUARDIAN $20,000 over five years
ANGEL $25,000 over five years
SAINT $50,000 over five years

Q: How is the HSRS Foundation managed? What are the monetary goals of the fund? How much is in the Endowment Trust Fund?
A: The HSRS Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors. In addition to Board members, the Principal, Pastors of Holy Spiriti and Good Shepherd parishes, the Development Director and a School Board & PTO representative also serve on the Foundation Board. Board members serve three year terms and suggested members include tax attorneys, realtors, marketing professionals, investment counselors, CPA’s, business owners and financial planners. Recently, the Foundation Board published it’s financial five year goals. The tri-annual newsletter, The Foundation, contains information on the current status of the fund. Please use the Foundation links to access current information.
